In every sport, an athlete always looks for new ways to improve their game. This past week, Nike brought 4 years of new soccer boot research to life in the latest release. The Magista was released with the intention that the footballer can now have a boot so extremely light and flexible, it truly is an extension of the body. The boot made it’s way to shoe blogs around the world and grabbed the attention of almost anyone in the soccer world. They chose Spain and Barcelona superstar Andres Iniesta to showcase the boot last Thursday in Spain and it has been welcomed with open hands. Nike’s biggest competitor, Adidas, even released their newest boot that also features a knitted upper. Their are already many images around the web but we found these to be the most exciting. Passion for soccer brings together many communities, all around the world. From the villages of Ghana, Africa to the streets of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, soccer is an international language. For many residents of Portland professional soccer is a new sport. Since the inception of an MLS squad and then the Portland Thorns, Portland has fallen in love with the sport.
Just a few weeks ago, the Portland Thorns won the league championship and brought home a sweet trophy to fans at Jeld Wen field. Now, nearing the end of the official season, the Timbers take over 1st place in the Western Conference. The Timbers battles hard against their rival Seattle Sounders and came out with a 1-0 victory. Who thought a team with 14 draws could even come close to a top 3 finish, but the point do add up. With just a few more games left, the city of Portland is energized more than ever. Could Soccer City, USA produce two champions in the same year from the same pitch…?

On September 15th, 2013 the University of Portland represented Soccer City with amazing futbol! Both the men’s and women’s teams came out victorious after mother nature’s impressive thunder and lightning. With the help of sophomore Stephanie Nakamine, of U of P’s sports marketing team, Futouch was able to make a presence on the school’s training pitch before and during each game. Children came and tried their skills at the Futouch nets. Check out some snapshots from the day’s event! Huge thanks to the University of Portland!
Congrats to the Portland Thorns FC for winning the NWSL Championship! Established in 2012, the women’s counterpart to the Portland Timbers had an amazing season. With leadership from such big names as Christine Sinclair and Alex Morgan, the lady Thorns were able to fight their way to the top. Members of the Futouch team were fortunate to make it out to a handful of games and were thoroughly impressed. Taken from Randy Rasmussen of the Oregonian, here are a few snaps from the ceremony on September 4th, 2013.

FUTOUCH in full effect! The Sunset Women’s Soccer program has been a growing program led under head coach Ben Durano. Two years ago they fell just short of winning a State Championship when they lost 1-0 to Tualitan High School. One year later, they got their revenge and knocked Tualitan out early in the 2012 OSAA Playoffs. The Sunset program is back at it, training three – four times a week with Ben and Junior Varsity Head Coach Josh Durano (eldest son), Assistant Varsity Coach Justin Durano (middle son) and new member of the coaching staff Bruce Chaddock and Nathaniel Correa. Above are two recent graduating seniors and 4 letter winners in the program.
